Townlong Steppes: Taotieroth

The content of this post and names are entirely made up. Some of the demon names are related to the Four Fiends in Chinese Mythology and what they were known for, but that is as far as I took them. Not all of the information in these posts may be correct so please take them with some imagination.

Quest: Townlong Steppes: Taotieroth

Quest Introduction:

Questgiver: “I see that you were able to make it through the troublesome mantid. However there is another problem that has afflicted us for many years in the Townlong Steppes. To the north there is a gorge. In this gorge there lives a creature which preys on our livestock and destroys the landscape wherever it sets foot.”

Warlock: “How is it that I can specifically help you? This sounds like something your warriors should be able to handle.”

Questgiver: We have tried.... but this beast is able to cause massive damage to anyone who gets close to it. If this wasn’t enough, the beast calls forth minions to help him, demonic manipulations of the Mantid which he links to his soul. All of our efforts to hurt this beast pass off to his demonic minions, making it impossible to kill him.

Warlock: What does this creature look like?

Questgiver: The creature walks on four legs but also has massive shoulders and arms. Tusks grow from his head that are larger than any of the ox in our herds. It has wings yet I have never seen it fly and I imagine it cannot because of his massive size.

Warlock: I know this creature that you speak of. It is a Pit Lord, a race within the Annihilan species. Most of the time they were generals of the Burning Legion and would lead their minions into battle. But they do have their weaknesses and I will dispose of this demon for you.

Questgiver: We would be grateful if you did. The demon’s name is Taotieroth. You should be able to find him in the gorge that is located in the northern region of Townlong Steppes. When you complete this task please return to us.

Quest Objectives:

Travel north to the gorge in Townlong Steppes.

Quest Description: (Shows up upon entering the gorge in Townlong Steppes)

The Black Ox Clan’s description of Taotieroth lays heavy on your mind and you know that you do not want to be close to this demon when you go to kill him. Your voidwalker should easily be able to keep this creature at a distance from you while you find out how to kill him. As you enter into the gorge a deep throated laughter echo across the walls.

Taotieroth: “Ah, a visitor..... But it has been awhile since I have seen a visitor such as yourself, warlock.

Warlock: I could same the same to you Pit Lord..... Not many of your kind are seen on this world. How is it that you came to this area?

Taotieroth: “My goal here was to recruit for the Burning Legion. I found a particular liking to these Mantid creatures and was able to recruit some of them. They drank of my blood and so became linked to my will. Unfortunately this area was shrouded from the rest of the world before I could use these minions in the fight with the Burning Legion. But that has not stopped me from using them against the Pandaren. Let us see how well they help in dealing with you....

Fight Strategy:

Shortly after the fight begins Taotieroth will summon a demonic Mantid to assist him. Taotieroth will cast Soul Link on the Mantid, causing all damage done to transfer to the Mantid. Should the Mantid be killed, Taotieroth will summon another Mantid to his aid. In order to counter this ability, you must banish the demonic Mantid. Banishing the minion will interrupt the Soul Link, allowing you to damage Taotieroth.

In order to keep Taotieroth at a distance you must use your voidwalker to tank him. Taotieroth will channel every 30 seconds his Ground Stop ability, decreasing movement speed by 90% and dealing massive amounts of damage to all players within 15 yards for 8 seconds. If you are within 15 yards it is likely that this ability will kill you. Your voidwalker though, will be able to survive this ability due to Avoidance.

Every 20 seconds Taotieroth will charge the warlock, dropping all threat. Players must use the voidwalker ability Suffering in order to taunt him back to the voidwalker. They then will have 10 seconds to move away from the boss before he beings to cast Ground Stop.

Every 60 seconds Taotieroth will throw his weapon at the player. This ability will deal 50% of the warlock’s health and interrupt all spellcasting. To counter this ability the warlock should use Sacrifice. This ability keep the warlock from being interrupted and will absorb the damage done by the weapon.

In order to defeat Taotieroth you must control the summoned minion with banish, as well as monitor your threat with your voidwalker. If done correctly this fight should take about 5 minutes to complete.

Completion:

Once Taotieroth is killed you will be able to loot his corpse. On the corpse are the Tusks of Taotieroth. Return this item to the Black Ox clan for your reward.

Questgiver: “We are in your debt warlock. With Taotieroth defeated we can now focus our attention more on the Mantid invasion.”

After completing the quest for the Black Ox Clan they will direct your to the Kun-Lai Summit and the White Tiger Clan. A demon in this region also terrorizes the inhabitants of the land.

Rewards:

For helping the Black Ox Clan they craft you shoulder made from the tusks of Taotieroth:

Shoulders of Taotieroth:
Shoulder - Cloth
+Stamina
+Intellect
+Mastery
+Haste
Red Socket
Blue Socket

Set (2): Increases the damage done by your pet by x%
Set (4): Periodic damage from your Immolate or Unstable Affliction has a chance to spawn a mirror image of your currently summoned pet for 30 seconds. (2 min cooldown)

Thoughts on this Questline:

My hope for this questline is that it will teach the warlock aggro management as well as how to maintain banish on a target. It should also teach the warlock the different abilities that the voidwalker has and how to use them effectively.
